Hi, Variety Act Miami readers!
Where do I begin? We have a lot to catch up on. (I moved to Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic, for starters…)
There may come a day when I revive Variety Act Miami. But right now, I have something new I’d love to introduce you to:
I’m launching a new Substack newsletter, Mise-En-Scène. The first issue publishes in exactly one week, on Thursday, December 21st.

A term you've probably encountered in Film Class 101, or through your most culturally voracious friend with the Criterion Collection subscription, "mise-en-scène" refers to the arrangement of scenery, props, and sometimes even the actors themselves on the stage of a theatrical production or on the set of a television program or film. In short, it's everything a storyteller chooses to put in their frame.
Mise-En-Scène the Substack newsletter explores mise-en-scène that has made an impact—aesthetically or otherwise—on interesting people who love to watch. Because everything is more fun with company, Mise-En-Scène will feature some very special guests celebrating cultural minutiae that is seared in their brains. And it won't be pretentious.
You can subscribe to Mise-En-Scène (for free!) right here, and follow on Instagram at @yourmiseenscene.
Thank you, as always, for your support! See you December 21st.
Much love,
Nat
